Maintenance tips for airport and dock ramps
These are mostly used in loading bays, hangar and landing docks for ferries and other water craft. They should be carefully maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions to get maximum benefits out of them. For the airport, they should be kept dry. If foldable, then their folding joints should be well oiled to make folding and unfolding easier. They should be cleaned regularly to protect travelers’ luggage. For the cargo plane they can be kept smooth or rough according to their tasks. For sliding light packages they should be as smooth as possible to reduce friction and be rough to increase traction where forklifts need to be driven in to the cargo holds to carry bulky loads.
The dock ramp should have larger tracts cut into it because sea water is wont to flow onto it making it slippery. It should also be slightly tilted to one side to allow runoff water to flow out, keeping it as dry as possible to avoid the corrosive activity of the salty sea water. Clear all debris as a stumble might toss a person headlong into the depths. Oil all joints for the foldable ones; tighten the bolts and nuts regularly. If wooden, check regularly for rotten planks and change them. Keep as dry as possible.
